OUR CALL .

Anna: When I was in college at Northwest University, I heard of the need in Alaska, and I felt God tell me one day I would go. For years, I forgot about that call. Junior year, I had a cool internship lined up for the summer that I believed would pave the way for my future, but then I heard of a trip that my school was offering to Alaska to work at a youth camp. Although, I knew God wanted me to go on that trip, I really did not want to. Long story short, I went, loved it, saw students on fire for God like never before, met my husband, and knew one day I would return. When I hit senior year of College, I asked God what He wanted me to do next. I heard Him so clearly say "CHI ALPHA", so I asked Him to open a door in Alaska. The next week I randomly was given a contact for the XA leader of FBX XA by one of my professors. I was in awe. Slowly as I learned more and more about XA, I realized God had been training me throughout all of college to disciple and love those well on the University Campus.

Tyler: A few years prior to us meeting, I had heard God ask me to give my life to work with students in full time ministry. This moment was right after I had recommitted my life to Christ. I had walked away from God in High School, but when I arrived in AK with my family at 18, I ran into two significant people in my life, Alex and Lucas. Lucas began to teach me how to love students well, whereas Alex (who was my XA small group leader) began to show me who God was and how to lead others. When I heard this call from God, I jumped in as fast as I could and began working with youth students. About a year ago, I started to ask God to open a door for me to be a youth pastor. However, it always felt like something was in the way. Doors would seem open, but then God would tell me to say no, or I would get no answer from the places I interviewed with. It always seemed like the timing wasn't right. I became aggravated and confused. Anna was already working with XA, so I slowly became more involved again this year. One night I was driving home and just asking God again what He wanted me to do next. In that moment, He told me to work alongside Anna in XA. This was hard for me to accept since I was so focused on working with youth specifically, but I knew I had to trust Him, and slowly I realized what He had first asked me to do, "work with students", and that's what I am gonna do.

WHAT WE DO

Small Groups

We go on campus, meet students, and invite them to small group. Small group is a time where we study scripture together, have deep discussion, and just build community like Jesus did with His disicples.

Large Group Service

Every Wednesday, we meet as a LG to worship, pray, and listen to a message. Then there is a time of fellowship after.

Missions Trips

Every year we send out trips to the villages of Alaska and around the world. Our goal is to have a culture of students that give to missionaries and go on mission's trips. With the potential of giving their life to it one day.

Events / Outreaches / Retreats

These are intended to help small group leaders bond with their group or be able to bring new people to. We want to reach the lost, and often this is our ability to meet them in creative ways.

Discipleship

One on Ones - we make sure to meet up with each of the students in our small group at least once a week or every other.

LTC (Leadership Training Course)

Every Spring we hold LTC training. This is the course we make all new SG leaders go through. It is taught by the staff team, and is intended to equip and challenge new potential leaders.

WE BUILD DISCIPLES - WHO BUILD DISCIPLES - WHO BUILD DISICPLES

Tyler

Tyler is a UAF student and chaplain with the Army. He grew up serving in his church. However, when he attended basic training, he walked away from God and got involved in some bad things. Then he moved to Alaska and met Tyler Scott. He got connected to the XA community, and his life completely turned around.

STUDENT TESTIMONIES

Mica

Mica is an international student at UAF, from Shanghai China. She came to AK for a full ride scholarship in Volleyball. One of her teammates was connected with XA and invited her to join. Mica had never been told about Jesus, but she wanted nothing to do with religion. Yet, she said yes to coming because she wanted community. Not only did she find community, but she gained a family, and has given her life to Christ.

Rhea

Rhea came as a freshman. She is a Native Alaskan student from Allakaket AK. Her village is off the road system, and consists of just under 200 ppl. When she came to college she felt very lonely, afraid, and just out of place. Her contact was given to me (Anna) and we started to consistently hang out with her and she joined my small group. She had already known who Jesus was, but after being in XA she has realized her need for God, His powerful word, and the role she has in living out His mission. She now has graduated from a discipleship school, and is going back to her village to put it into action.

WHERE WE MINISTER

FAIRBANKS ALASKA

We believe the college campus is the most strategic mission field on the planet. We get students from all around the US/World who come to us and live on the campus for 2-4 years! Then we get to send them home to reach their friends, family, and city.
UAF is a state school consisting  of 6,000 students. It is widely known for engineering.
Being placed in AK gives us the opportunity to not only reach our campus, but the STATE
Alaska is made up of 240 villages. Many are off the road system, with no running water, no cell service, extremely low temperatures, and no consistent gospel witness. Because of this many people who move to the villages, such as missionaries and teachers, leave soon after arriving. As AK-XA we have made it our goal to train up and send out graduates as missionaries to help reach the state of Alaska (check out AKSP at the bottom). Not only that but we get the opportunity to then send out our students on missions trips every year to work alongside those living in the villages.

OUR TEAM

FBX XA STAFF TEAM

This upcoming year our Fairbanks team will be made up of 9 full time staff, 2 Interns, 45 student small group leaders, and 9 village missionaries in training (AKSP).

Our specific roles within the team:

Tyler is in charge of heading up all campus outreach, pretty much planning how to reach students on campus and get them connected to our student small group leaders. Along with this, he is working with our mission's department to plan trips, communicate with local/world missionaries, and helping facilitate our mission's emphasis month. Anna is the committee leader of all events and media. We both will also be weekly meeting students on campus, leading a small group, discipling student small group leaders, and helping with teaching and preaching throughout the year.

ALASKA STUDENT PARTNERSHIP (AKSP)

VILLAGE MISSIONARIES IN TRAINING PROGRAM

Untitled design.png

When Chi Alpha was first pioneered in AK, 8 years ago, they were told that there were 100 villages without a consistent gospel message. Our team knew that statistic needed to change.

After years of prayer and preparation, AKSP was established in 2020 as a training ground for village missionaries alongside XA. Villages have a deep need for long term teachers. Most classrooms can see up to 12 teachers filter through in a semester. It's a hard place to live, so, people come and just leave. Which leaves these kids with a bad education and no consistency. God made it clear this was an open door to reach the unreached

Those missionaries in training come to Fairbanks for a year, get their teaching certification, take ministry classes, make disciples on the UAF campus (with a focus of reaching out to native Alaskan students), and learn how to live and survive in the Alaskan villages. Throughout that year they also travel to multiple villages and live in one for 5 weeks. After this, they are then asked if they would agree to a 3-year commitment to teach in a village and start a house church.

STATISTIC NOW: We can officially say that there is now only 96 villages without a consistent gospel message. Over the last two years we have trained and sent out 20 missionaries between 4 different villages. We already have 9 more signed up to start training this fall!
